Life cannot be fast forwarded

The journey of life cannot be lived all at once. This is a three dimensional world. Scenes appear in my view and shift from one to another. All events happen within my field of consciousness. As I experience everything, it happens in sequence. It has to because through a 3D brain and body, events in this world can only be experienced one at a time.

If life in this 3D world is a winding path, I in this 3D body cannot get to the very end right away. The end would be the end of my life here. So I hike the trail and make stops along the way. The trail can be scenic as I inhale the fresh air and take in breathtaking views. It can also become muddy and soil my boots. Other times it is icy and slippery, keeping me on edge.

These are events which I respond with disturbance or delight, or everything in between. My choice. But I can’t skip certain events and get to the ones that I prefer. All events appear whether I like it or not. The best thing to do is to make wise choices, but I cannot prevent events from happening that aren’t in my control. I can only control how I respond to them.

If I rush and try to go faster on this life path, I don’t actually get closer to the end. No point in racing toward the end when the end is the death of the body. I’m not trying to make my body die sooner than later, so rushing is futile and makes no sense.

What makes sense is to treat the whole trip like an adventure—of intrigue and fun. The path ahead cannot be clearly seen beforehand. It can be clouded by fog, hidden by trees, or undetected behind a hill. All I must do is savor each step, each moment, and each stop be it scenic, muddy, or slippery. And welcome interactions with companions and those who pass by. It is better to marvel at this journey of discovery than view it as a burden. Life is a moment to moment unraveling that like a movie, must be watched and not fast forwarded.

Life does not have to be unbearable when I know I am eternal consciousness zooming in and sequentially experiencing this 3D world for a finite period of time. There is peace in the present because the present is what this 3D body was designed to handle. There is relief in not knowing everything because knowing everything would probably be too overwhelming for this 3D brain. There is only the journey of discovery on this life trail in the here and now as I round each corner with amazement, amusement, or appreciation.
